Today I want to talk to you about skincare, specifically my current night routine. I changed it up a bit to try some new items/steps that I haven’t done before or haven’t been doing regularly.
This is actually where I’m rotating several things to try them out, but Bifesta has been my mainstay for some time. I am about to try out the Bifesta Cleansing Lotion Agecare variant because I want to focus on anti-aging. The other items I’m trying are Nippon Makeup Remover Lotion, Celeteque Advanced Anti-Aging Cleansing Oil, and Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover. I’m pretty excited about that last one since I’ve been waiting forever for a good (yet affordable) bi-phase remover for those stubborn waterproof eye makeup.
My new cleanser is ZA Perfect Solution Cleansing Foam (from The Beauty Junkee giveaway loot). It’s my first time using a cleansing foam and I’m having so much fun with it! I love lather and it only requires the tiniest of the product to make enough lather for my whole face. I feel really clean and actually moisturized after washing my face with this.
This is the only one that I haven’t changed. I’ve been using Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner for quite some time and it’s still my favorite toner by far. I don’t really use it every night, only on nights when I’m feeling extra clogged. I bought this big bottle way back last year (!!) and I’m not really even halfway through it!
This is the new step I’ve introduced to my routine. I’ve decided to really focus on a consistent and complete night routine so I’ve added the essence/serum step (from the Korean and Japanese multistep skincare routines). I chose Etude House Moistfull Collagen Essence because collagen is something I associate with anti-aging. I’m so far liking it, and the packaging feels pretty luxe with that glass bottle. I plan to write a full review of this once I’ve used it for a few months.
This is where I’m the most inconsistent. I only put on eye cream when I happen to remember it! Right now my eye cream on rotation is a sample tub of Clinique All About Eyes. It’s not particularly remarkable, and I guess I’m still on the hunt for a good eye cream that I’ll feel connected to.
The cream I have started trying is the partner of my cleanser. It’s ZA Perfect Solution Restoring Collagen Cream (also from TBJ gift pack). I love how it ties in with the Etude House collagen line. The bright metallic pink cap is also quite unique. The cream itself is pretty thick and heavy, which makes me be thankful that it comes at the end (usually) of my routine. It basically seals in everything I just piled on. It can be a bit stifling in hot weather but at least recently it’s been getting colder.
I’ve tried one other sleeping pack (Laneige) and loved it, which is why I decided to get the essence’s partner in the same line. Etude House Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack is just that: the sleeping pack part of the routine. It’s pretty gel-like in consistency, and doesn’t really feel bad atop the cream as it’s almost weightless. It’s also not meant to be used nightly; maybe twice a week at most. The main difference between this and the Laneige Sleeping Pack is that the EH one needs to be rinsed off the following morning. I haven’t even used any in the tub yet as I’m using up the product stuck on the lid! This is going to last me a loooong time!
These are just for specific items that I use for specific issues (which isn’t nightly, thank goodness!). Belo AcnePro Pimple Gel for the occasional flare ups; VMV Id Monolaurin Gel for the more serious acne; and VMV Grandma Minnie’s Booboo Balm for, well, booboos! These are used only on an as-needed basis.
There we have it! It may seem like a pretty tedious process, and it is, but I want to really dedicate some time in my evenings for skin care. I’m already in my 30s and it’s about time I start on a serious anti-aging regimen. Did you try any of these products? I would love to hear your thoughts!
Welcome to Week 3 of my 20 Days of Lipstick beauty dare! Just a short recap, this challenge requires me to use a different lipstick for five days per week without repetition for the entire challenge. Last week I was only able to do four lipsticks; let’s see if I met the challenge this week!
Day 1: VMV Hypoallergenics Subtle Shine Lipstick in Girl Next Door
This came from the huge loot I got from The Beauty Junkee, and is one of the very first things I opened (because lipstick!). This is a nude one for me and really leans brown, and is quite matte (which is weird because it says it’s “Subtle Shine“). It’s quite invisible on me, and applies a little patchy. It has that old-lady smell as well, which is a little offputting.
Day 2: Maybelline Color Sensational in Peachy Scene
Ye gods, it’s been a long time since I used this lipstick. I swatched it here before, and I honestly have forgotten I have this. It’s a, well, peach shade, and a very sparkly one at that, which makes it a little hard to use on an everyday basis. I shall strive to use this a little more often before it turns bad!
Day 3: Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Ripe Raspberry
Permit me another cheat day. This is not exactly a lipstick, nor is it something I don’t normally use (because I totally do!). However I really like the lipstick-like pigmentation of this balm, and of course it’s very moisturizing. Unfortunately I think this is the most pigmented of the available shades, so the others will not be as deeply colored as this. I wore it to a press event.
Day 4: Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede in Supermodel
This is another attempt at nude. Supermodel appears quite invisible on my lips, tbh, with a little hint of mauve and just a tiny bit of shine. One of the features of this lipstick that I really like is the locking mechanism of the tube. It makes sure that I don’t smear lipstick all over my bag if the cap suddenly falls off (which happens alarmingly often!).
Day 5: Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Party Red
This is the third of the five lipsticks in my Clinique All-in-one Makeup Kit, and this one is the boldest and brightest of them. Party Red turns out to be a super matte red, and it really is super hard to apply because of that. It’s a great red, however, and I chose this on this day because I had an event to attend and this seemed perfect for the theme! It’s a little drying though.
Yay for a complete week 3! I’m really enjoying this challenge (as you can see!) and I’m a little sad that I’m almost at the end of it. Just one more week to go!
Last month I was not able to put up a haul post, so I am doing a collective haul post for these past two months.
Celeteque Clarifying Shampoo
I’ve already posted an initial impression of this clarifying shampoo, and I can say that this is such a great product! It resets your scalp and rids it of product buildup. In addition it also somehow conditions the hair, making it soft and silky. Just a note of warning: this shouldn’t be used more than once a week. This retails for Php200 for a 250-ml bottle.
Fabulosa Rings and Necklaces
I received a simple necklace from Fabulosa in my Secret Santa Glamourbox. I loved it so much that I immediately purchased three ringsets. About a week later Fabulosa held an auction for more of those simple gold fashion necklaces, and I won it! I now have four new necklaces (the fifth will be included in a giveaway!). Fabulosa’s Amanda is so personable and easy to deal with, and I am looking forward to getting one or two of the statement necklaces. The ring sets are normally Php350 (set of 3 rings) but if you purchase two or more sets it goes down to Php300.
Paper Chic Studio Washi Tape Set
One of my purchases at the World Bazaar (same day that I visited Bloggers United 6) was this washi tape set from Paper Chic Studio. This is my first experience with washi tapes and so far my daughter is loving it. Myself, I’ve only tried it on a cannister of ear buds and my it looks fab. I got this set for only Php50.
Gift from Kira of Elegantly Wasted
Let me just gush like the fangirl I am. One of my goals when visiting Bloggers United 6 was to meet as many of my blog heroes as I can. Kira of Elegantly Wasted is one of them, and luckily enough I did get to meet her there! She is so sweet and charming, and she didn’t mind so much that I looked quite dorky in this photo (check out her rad necklace!). After a quick chat and the photo session I took my leave. It was therefore quite a shock when she sent me this gift, and wow I was flabbergasted when I opened it. The pack included a cute desk calendar, a bliv face mask, three samples of a VMV cream cleanser plus a voucher, Maybelline Color Sensational in Tinted Taupe, a sample of Benefit They’re Real Mascara, and three pots of Silk Naturals mineral eye color. Holy wow! Did I mention wow? Thanks so much Kira!
Models Own Nail Polishes
As part of my holiday order from Glamourbox Boutique (I gave away gift sets to my girlaloos), I got myself a couple of polishes I’ve been lemming for a while now. These are Fuzzy Peach (a nice bright pink-leaning peach) and Blizzard (a color-fest silver gliter topper), Php365 each.
This very useful canvas tote from Glamourbox is a bonus item when you purchase more than Php2000 worth from the Boutique. I easily went over the minimum when I went christmas shopping and got this wonderful tote.
OMG Nail Polishes
A chance trip to Landmark Makati brought me to the OMG display shelf, and I was excited to see some new shades. I bought three for myself that day: Jive (a deep blue), Happy Hour (a shimmery dark purple), and Gold Digger (a bright metallic gold). I’ve already swatched the first with great results. Each bottle of polish costs Php19.75.
That same trip to Landmark got me a bottle of nail glue. I need this to try out my new nail studs which I won from The Nailinator‘s giveaway. I think this costs Php40 or thereabouts.
I am typically not a flats person, as I prefer going around in socks-and-shoes/boots combo. My office christmas party required a filipiniana attire and I needed appropriate shoes for it. Luckily I saw these black Solemate flats with some sort of woven texture and can readily pass for filipiniana. Solemate at SM Makati was having a sale, buy-1-take-1 of selected flats for Php399, so I got this nice cream pair with bow detail as well. I think I am now a convert! These feel so nice and comfy on the feet!
Sample Room Haul
On the 11th day of christmas I grabbed a Colour Collection Age Defying BB Cream CoQ10 & Green Tea Extract SPF45 and a Sappe Beauti Drink (Fiber 8,000 mg with L-carnitine), all for 140 points. I enjoyed my first CC BB cream (reviewed here) and I expect I would enjoy this one as well. And since I had extra points, I grabbed that beauty drink as well just to try it out.
Dazzle Dry Essentials and Nail Polish
Dazzle Dry had a holiday sale where all items in their store got a major discount! I grabbed myself some essentials, two bottles of Nail Prep (Php100 each) and a top coat (Php400), as well as four bottles of nail polish at Php360 each. I was able to score the following shades: Arctic Sunset, Morning Dew, Pixie Green with Envy, and Blueberry Sno Cone. Can’t wait to show you my swatches!
My latest Sampleroom haul consisted of the following items: Godiva LicoWhite™ Whitening Lotion with SPF 15 (8 sachets of 6ml each), VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Sport 70 (5 ml sample tube), and The Body Shop Moisture White™ Shisho BB SERUM INSIDE (5 sachets of 1.5ml each). I would like to share with you my impressions of these items so that you can decide whether to get them or not while there are still samples available.
1. Godiva LicoWhite™ Whitening Lotion with SPF 15
I am a huge lotion fan, and I didn’t hesitate to grab this when it became available at Sampleroom even if the main draw was the whitening. I didn’t really need the whitening aspect, but what intrigued me was that it was a lotion with SPF. While I could not vouch for the whitening, I can definitely say that I love the texture and scent of this lotion. It also did not irritate my sensitive skin. I can consider adding this to my stable of lotions once I run out. The sample costs 25 points, and the full sized 100ml bottle costs Php120 and is available in supermarkets and drugstores.
2. VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Sport 70
VMV has always struck me as the epitome of sensitive skin friendly, especially with that Hypoallergenics in the name. Therefore it was a no-brainer to grab this. It’s a sunscreen that comes in a novel tube that comes with its own spatula. I usually put this on my face when the day is unusually hot, but it can also be used for the body. Putting makeup on top of this is not an issue. A little goes a long way for this! The sample costs 50 points, and the full sized 185g/85g tube costs Php2080/Php1500 respectively and is available at VMV counters in malls. It sounds pretty pricey, but take note that the sample is only 5ml and it will take some time to finish!
3. The Body Shop Moisture White™ Shiso BB SERUM INSIDE
Lastly we have the BB cream sample from The Body Shop. TBS is noted for its mostly cruelty-free products, so I was quite excited to try this out. This Moisture White Shiso variant contains shiso, vitamin C and liquorice, and Community Fair Trade organic aloe vera, and targets hyperpigmentation, improves luminosity and evens skin tone. I like the fact that it has a lot of skincare factor in this face base. The only problem with this is that the shade is too light for my skin tone. There is a distinct white cast, and I definitely needed the help of a finishing powder to darken it back to skin tone. This sample costs 60 points, and the full sized 30ml tube is Php1395.
Bonus! I received a 15% off voucher for the Beauty & Minerals online store! Amazing! Thanks Sampleroom!
As one last hurrah for September, Glamourbox sent the much awaited Beauty SOS box last week. This box contains products that aim to address specific skin troubles such as zits, dull skin, and sparse lashes. Let’s take a look at what’s inside.
Warning: Photo-intensive post ahead! [You can click on each photo for a bigger size.]
The usual sturdy box greets us, along with the welcome card bearing the theme, and underneath is a glimpse of what’s to come. I will present these in the order stated in the welcome card.
The first product is called Rejuvalash Eyelash Growth Serum. I’ve never been a believer of lash serums, thinking that the lashes you are born with are the lashes you will have until death. Maybe this one will change my mind, I think I’ll give this a chance. Goodness knows I don’t have full lashes (but my daughter does! lucky her!) so I can use some growth. I will report back on how this performs for me. The ingredients for this are: Enzyme EPM containing 10 amino acids, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and sterilized moisture. This is probably a full sized product, 5ml, which costs Php2860 (wow).
The second one is Kanebo Impress Advanced CT Essence, an anti-aging serum containing carnitine to repair all skin damage. A pretty big boast, to be honest. I am all for anti-aging, since I’m already at the age where I should start investing in it, so I shall give this a try. Unfortunately we are provided only two tiny sachets of 0.4ml each, so hopefully that is enough to give us a good impression. The full 40ml bottle costs a whopping Php12000! The sachets therefore costs Php120 each (whoa).
Next we have Avon Genics Gen-Protect SPF15 Treatment. It is a facial lotion with SPF, and has a bit of anti-aging properties as well. It claims to undo 10 years off the skin in just 8 weeks. Thankfully we received a full bottle so we can try this out properly. It’s meant to be used in the morning after cleansing. The 30-ml bottle costs Php1299.
Next is my favorite in the box. It is VMV Hypoallergenics Id Monolaurin Gel. This is meant to address acne and prevents over-sweating. It can be used for both face and body. I’ve always been a fan of VMV as it is one of the friendliest to sensitive skin. The full size, 120ml, costs Php710. We’ve been given a trial sample of 50ml (generous!) so this costs about Php295.
The next item is my second favorite, and is the only makeup product in the box. It is an Ofra Lipstick in #202 (red). I was super excited about this because Glamourbox teased us with a photo, and I fell in love with it. The tube is smaller than the usual lipstick tubes, but it contains the standard 4g of product. I am starting to love red lippies, and this one seems like a good one to start with. This costs Php650.
Last on the list of regular items is Saforelle Gentle Cleansing Care, which is actually a gentle intimate wash. I’m not really into intimate washes (I just use water!) so I’m a little unexcited about this product. This is a full 100ml bottle which costs Php159.75.
Luckily enough I was one of the first 150 subscribers to the Beauty SOS box and thus qualified to receive the bonus item. It is Mustela Stelatopia Emollient Cream, a cream cleanser for dry, atopic skin. It can be used on the face and body to nourish the skin and alleviate itching. It’s supposed to be great for sensitive skin! The full size, 200ml, costs Php1190 (Mustela isn’t cheap), so this 10ml sampler costs Php59.50.
There is also a good amount of vouchers included in this box. Going clockwise from the top we have: 1. 10% off voucher for Anma Lifestyle travel accessories (FB store) valid until December 2013; 2. This isn’t really a voucher, but Saforelle gives you a chance to win free products in exchange for feedback; 3. 500 peso discount voucher for Soleo Swimwear (FB store) for a minimum purchase of Php1350; 4. Vouchers for VMV products (25% off on select products, or free shipping plus 2 deluxe minis for a Php2000 purchase) valid until December 31, 2013, applicable only on the online store; 5. Free bikini waxing service from Lay Bare Waxing Salon, valid until November 30, 2013; 6. Complimentary Nail Art (Caviar, Velvet, and Foil) from PoshNails Marikina branch valid until November 30, 2013.
These are pretty significant vouchers! I will probably try to maximize these and use up as much of it as I can.
My impression of the Beauty SOS September Glamourbox: I love this box! Firstly it introduces a lot of unfamiliar (to me) brands. I enjoy checking out brands I’ve never heard of before, which is really the main point of subscription boxes tbh. Secondly most of the items in this box are usable, and may in fact be needed since my skin needs a little bit more pampering lately. Thirdly wow at all those vouchers! I am starting to change my mind about vouchers, and I love the fact that Glamourbox treats these as pure bonuses (ie, not included in their welcome card). This is such a sulit box!
Value review: The total value of this box is about Php5500, including the bonus item but excluding the voucher values. This is almost ten times (!!!) the value of the subscription, holy smokes! To be fair, more than half of that is just in the eyelash serum. On the other hand most of the products are full sized, and the voucher values are just amazing.
