This is waaaaay late but let me show you what I wore on my nails over the Valentines weekend.
I used two coats of Dazzle Dry Strawberry Macaron for the base. On the ring finger I used Models Own Blizzard for a nice silver sparkle. On the other four I used Revlon Brilliant Strength Nail Polish in Seduce and Dazzle Dry Heart of Fire for the dots, which ended up totally indistinguishable from each other. The random swirls between the dots were actually the Revlon polish, and was inadvertently swiped across the nail when I applied top coat too early.
Hope you guys had a great valentines!
I’m sure you are aware of the resting bitch face. Urban dictionary defines it as “a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to.” Fortunately, I don’t have that, but I do have what I would call resting sad face. Apparently I look sad or depressed when I am expressionless. I have more than one person per week come up to me asking if I’m okay, when I was actually feeling pretty upbeat! Maybe I need to smile more…
Anyway! I would like to share with you one of the ways I reuse my empty Glamourboxes. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before, but Glamourboxes are pretty large and sturdy and really quite reusable.
Since the boxes are nicely sturdy, I use them as trays/containers for my nail polishes. Here you see one and a half Glamourboxes holding my favorite polishes and nail art equipment. I also use another box as a tray where I put my selected supplies so I don’t need to bring an entire box of polishes every time.
Here’s a closer look at the individual trays. This box is where I put my (growing) collection of Dazzle Dry nail polishes. On the corner is my lone Rescue Beauty Lounge lacquer.
This one holds my “other” brands. I have here a surprising amount of OMG polishes and a bit of Girlstuff, Models Own, San San, Essence, and Etude House. There’s also lone representatives from Misa, BYS, and Bobbie.
Finally this one holds my nail art supplies. Most of it is actually from the Nailinator as I won one of her contests.
Writing this post makes me realize that I might have a bit too much nail polish (you don’t say?!). At the same time, I also feel like my boxes can hold a bit more bottles and there’s that really horrible nagging thought that I have maybe five more unused Glamourboxes hanging around. I…I’m addicted, aren’t I?
How do you recycle your subscription box boxes?
One of the things I got for myself last christmas is a pair of Models Own polishes that has been on my wishlist for a while. Honestly I would like to buy all available colors that Glamourbox carries but well, money is limited. I narrowed my choice down to my top two: Fuzzy Peach and Blizzard. Today I will show you swatches of Fuzzy Peach.
Fuzzy Peach, as the name suggests, is a nice peach shade. It is definitely not fuzzy though! In fact it is pretty bright and loud, and leans quite a lot to neon. I love it!
Indoors the neon-ness of it shows a lot more.
Outdoors it somehow becomes a little more fuzzy.
It applies quite well and dries fast. It also works well with the Dazzle Dry system.
Models Own is cruelty-free.
Last month I was not able to put up a haul post, so I am doing a collective haul post for these past two months.
Celeteque Clarifying Shampoo
I’ve already posted an initial impression of this clarifying shampoo, and I can say that this is such a great product! It resets your scalp and rids it of product buildup. In addition it also somehow conditions the hair, making it soft and silky. Just a note of warning: this shouldn’t be used more than once a week. This retails for Php200 for a 250-ml bottle.
Fabulosa Rings and Necklaces
I received a simple necklace from Fabulosa in my Secret Santa Glamourbox. I loved it so much that I immediately purchased three ringsets. About a week later Fabulosa held an auction for more of those simple gold fashion necklaces, and I won it! I now have four new necklaces (the fifth will be included in a giveaway!). Fabulosa’s Amanda is so personable and easy to deal with, and I am looking forward to getting one or two of the statement necklaces. The ring sets are normally Php350 (set of 3 rings) but if you purchase two or more sets it goes down to Php300.
Paper Chic Studio Washi Tape Set
One of my purchases at the World Bazaar (same day that I visited Bloggers United 6) was this washi tape set from Paper Chic Studio. This is my first experience with washi tapes and so far my daughter is loving it. Myself, I’ve only tried it on a cannister of ear buds and my it looks fab. I got this set for only Php50.
Gift from Kira of Elegantly Wasted
Let me just gush like the fangirl I am. One of my goals when visiting Bloggers United 6 was to meet as many of my blog heroes as I can. Kira of Elegantly Wasted is one of them, and luckily enough I did get to meet her there! She is so sweet and charming, and she didn’t mind so much that I looked quite dorky in this photo (check out her rad necklace!). After a quick chat and the photo session I took my leave. It was therefore quite a shock when she sent me this gift, and wow I was flabbergasted when I opened it. The pack included a cute desk calendar, a bliv face mask, three samples of a VMV cream cleanser plus a voucher, Maybelline Color Sensational in Tinted Taupe, a sample of Benefit They’re Real Mascara, and three pots of Silk Naturals mineral eye color. Holy wow! Did I mention wow? Thanks so much Kira!
Models Own Nail Polishes
As part of my holiday order from Glamourbox Boutique (I gave away gift sets to my girlaloos), I got myself a couple of polishes I’ve been lemming for a while now. These are Fuzzy Peach (a nice bright pink-leaning peach) and Blizzard (a color-fest silver gliter topper), Php365 each.
This very useful canvas tote from Glamourbox is a bonus item when you purchase more than Php2000 worth from the Boutique. I easily went over the minimum when I went christmas shopping and got this wonderful tote.
OMG Nail Polishes
A chance trip to Landmark Makati brought me to the OMG display shelf, and I was excited to see some new shades. I bought three for myself that day: Jive (a deep blue), Happy Hour (a shimmery dark purple), and Gold Digger (a bright metallic gold). I’ve already swatched the first with great results. Each bottle of polish costs Php19.75.
That same trip to Landmark got me a bottle of nail glue. I need this to try out my new nail studs which I won from The Nailinator‘s giveaway. I think this costs Php40 or thereabouts.
I am typically not a flats person, as I prefer going around in socks-and-shoes/boots combo. My office christmas party required a filipiniana attire and I needed appropriate shoes for it. Luckily I saw these black Solemate flats with some sort of woven texture and can readily pass for filipiniana. Solemate at SM Makati was having a sale, buy-1-take-1 of selected flats for Php399, so I got this nice cream pair with bow detail as well. I think I am now a convert! These feel so nice and comfy on the feet!
Sample Room Haul
On the 11th day of christmas I grabbed a Colour Collection Age Defying BB Cream CoQ10 & Green Tea Extract SPF45 and a Sappe Beauti Drink (Fiber 8,000 mg with L-carnitine), all for 140 points. I enjoyed my first CC BB cream (reviewed here) and I expect I would enjoy this one as well. And since I had extra points, I grabbed that beauty drink as well just to try it out.
Dazzle Dry Essentials and Nail Polish
Dazzle Dry had a holiday sale where all items in their store got a major discount! I grabbed myself some essentials, two bottles of Nail Prep (Php100 each) and a top coat (Php400), as well as four bottles of nail polish at Php360 each. I was able to score the following shades: Arctic Sunset, Morning Dew, Pixie Green with Envy, and Blueberry Sno Cone. Can’t wait to show you my swatches!
For the second edition of Wishlist, I present to you my Nail Polish wishlist. I am listing this by brand, although some brands have several items listed in them. My primary consideration in including anything on this list is that it has to be cruelty-free.
1. Dazzle Dry Esnavi Collection, and Dazzle Dry Bloggers Mystery Collection
Why I Want It: Dazzle Dry is my favorite brand primarily because it dries rock-hard in literally five minutes. This is tried and tested, and the Philippine distributor is so nice! The first collection is limited edition and is a collaboration with the singer Esnavi. It has only three shades (green, purple, and peach) and I want all of them! The Bloggers Mystery is a collaboration with five prominent nail bloggers (the sixth shade being a DD-made one), and is released as the 2013 winter collection. I would like to get all six shades but realistically I would probably only get my top three (white, blue, and green). All three of the Esnavi shades are available at Dazzle Dry PH while the Bloggers Mystery will be available at the end of the month.
Why I Shouldn’t Buy It: Nothing, really. Probably the price, but that isn’t how wishlists are supposed to work, right? 😀
2. OPI Couture de Minnie Runway Minnies
Why I Want It: I’ve always liked Minnie Mouse, as she presents as a strong female character without being over the top. This OPI set (includes four of the five shades of this collection, in mini bottles) seems to capture that idea quite well. In addition I love pinks and starting to lean on reds as well, so this is the perfect set to get started on OPI.
Why I Shouldn’t Buy It: OPI may be cruelty-free, but it is owned by a parent company that tests on animals (Coty). I’m not yet sure how I feel about that, but I figure if a parent company profits from a cruelty-free daughter company then that ultimately supports the animal testing of the parent company.
3. Models Own Nail Polishes
Why I Want It: My experience with my first Models Own made me want to get more shades. It applies well and dries relatively fast.
Why I Shouldn’t Buy It: The local reseller, Glamourbox, only has limited shades available. And among those shades, I probably only want one or two. It’s not “sulit” to order only a couple since I’d have to pay extra for shipping anyway. I’d rather order a bunch for efficient ordering.
4. Deborah Lippman Wicked Collection
Why I Want It: I like fairy tales, and the Wizard of Oz is one of my favorites. While admittedly I have neither read the book nor watched the play, I like the swatches of the Wicked collection I’ve found online. That green polish would fit quite well into my greens collection.
Why I Shouldn’t Buy It: Deborah Lippman is a brand I’ve never tried before. I have no idea if it will work well with my go-to base and top coats (Dazzle Dry) so it will be a gamble if I buy this set.
5. Rescue Beauty Lounge Fan 2.0 Collection Coquette
Why I Want It: Emboldened by my positive experience with Liberty, I want to try more shades from RBL. From the latest colaboration with RBL fans I chose the shade Coquette as the best.
Why I Shouldn’t Buy It: Unlike Liberty, the Fan 2.0 collection was not picked up by any reseller so it is very difficult to acquire this. I’ve never had the experience of importing an item directly. In addition, getting this will only make me more addicted to RBL, which is by far the most expensive polish I own (and is probably not that sustainable, hehe).
6. Picture Polish
Why I Want It: Picture Polish is an Australian brand of nail polishes that produce really interesting shades. Thankfully it is being distributed locally by Polish Please, and has a pretty good selection of shades. I love most of the greens and blues (hence the shade selection above) and would love to try at least a couple of these. I can combine this with OPI Couture de Minnie above to save on shipping fees.
Why I Shouldn’t Buy It: Just like Deborah Lippman, this is a brand I’ve never tried before and may not work well with my go-to base and top coats (Dazzle Dry) so it will be a gamble if I buy this set.
Bonus Item: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
Why I Want It: My go-to top coat does not work well with some brands, and I need an alternative. I’ve seen many praises for this top coat which have convinced me that this should be on my wish list even if it’s not a nail polish per se. As a bonus, I can combine this with the OPI Couture de Minnie set to save on shipping (from Polish Please).
Why I Shouldn’t Buy It: Seche is mostly cruelty-free, but they do not guarantee the same for their ingredient vendors. This is not such a big deal for me at the moment, but it’s a point of contention.
Verdict: Dazzle Dry it is, to be honest. Nothing can beat a tried and tested brand, and it already works with my base and top coat of choice (of the same brand, hehe!). I might get the Seche top coat anyway since I do have other brands of polish that I regularly use too.
Have you tried/owned any of these brands? Which would you recommend/not recommend and why, or would you rather recommend something else?
The purpose of this week’s nail art is to test drive my new Models Own Nail Art Pen in Black (hauled last August). If you will recall, it comes with two applicators – a thin striping brush and a pen head. Check out the photos below to refresh your memory.
At the same time, I also wanted to try a nail art design called ikat. My inspiration is this tutorial by Kayla Shevonne. For this nail art I used Dazzle Dry Sahara, White Lightning, and Spearmint Tea for the yellow, white, and teal respectively, and of course the Models Own Nail Art Pen for the black. I faithfully followed the instructions, but making use of the White Lightning and my striping brush instead of a white striper. Here is how it came out:
Again, I forgot that I wasn’t actually using Dazzle Dry for the black, and applied the top coat too quickly. It resulted in some streaking of the black stripes, especially in the thumb, pointer, and ring fingers. Luckily the ikat design allows for such streaking and it doesn’t actually seem like it’s a ruined design.
I also want to mention that I had to cut off a bit off the end of the striper brush of the nail art pen because some fibers were longer and was messing up my stripes. I used a nail clipper to cut off the longer tips, and now all the fibers are of the same length. Below is a shot of the design in sunlight.
I didn’t imagine I could do this on my right hand (painted using my nondominant left), so I just made a simple stripe design using the same color theme. This time I used the pen head to do the black stripes. The fine lines actually evoked some sort of comic-feel to this design. Again I forgot about the longer drying time (see the pinky)!
Sunlight shots of the right hand stripe design below.
As this is a review, here are the pros and cons of the Models Own Nail Art Pen in Black. Take note that this costs Php440, and can be bought from the Glamourbox Boutique.
Pros: makes good thin lines using either applicator; portable
Cons: limited availability (online only); a bit expensive; drying time is a little long
After weeks of just swatches, I wanted to take a break and go back to nail art for a bit. I also wanted to put my new dotting tool to a test (bought last August). Here it is side by side with my old dotting tool (the one with the bent head). Both are by BK Nails, the new one is the one on the right on the first photo.
I just wanted a simple nail art composed mainly of dots. My inspiration is from this black and white nail art but instead I used greens. For this nail art I used Models Own Jade Stone as my base color, Dazzle Dry Me d’Forest Queen and Polar Jade for the dots.
The process is simple.
- Prep the nails using the Dazzle Dry Nail Prep and Base Coat.
- Put two layers of Jade Stone on all nails.
- Using the dotting tool with the bigger head, put three to four dots of Me d’Forest Queen randomly on all nails.
- Using the dotting tool with the smaller head, scatter many dots of Polar Jade around the bigger dots.
- Top with Dazzle Dry Top Coat.
Check it out. It’s quite simple, yet striking! In dimmer light the darker green of Me d’Forest Queen looks almost black.
I went a little crazy with the small dots on my right hand.
The sparkles of Polar Jade is more evident in sunlight.
What do you think? Simple, yet effective!
Here are my favorites for the month of September.
1. [Hair] Lucido-L Hair Make Supplement Treatment Oil for Straight
As I mentioned in the unboxing, this is one of the reasons I bought the SM Beauty Box. I wanted to try out a hair oil specifically for straight hair (even though mine is quite wavy), and this one really performs. The scent is wonderful as well.
2. [Eyes] Fairydrops Platinum Mascara
Much raves I have seen for this mascara, and I am glad to report that I find the raves to be true. This mascara really gives that much-needed length and volume to my sparse lashes, and stays on pretty much the whole day. It takes a lot of effort to get this off! I got this mascara from the BDJ Elite Box Girls Night Out.
3. [Face] Colour Collection Whitening BB Cream
My collection of BB creams is growing, and thus I didn’t really expect to like this one. It takes a lot to stand out from the bunch, but I found that this BB cream from Color Collection is doing just that. I’ll update this with a link to the full review, but suffice to say that I am much taken in by this tube. I got this from the September BDJ Box.
4. [Body] Ralph Lauren Big Pony Yellow
Gasp! A fragrance, in my favorites? Alas yes, I have to be honest and say that I am totally taken by this roll-on scent. I use this everyday and I feel that it holds on to me for most of the day too. The roll-on mechanism is a novelty as well; this is my first fragrance that comes in a roll-on bottle instead of a spray bottle. I got this from the BDJ Elite Box Girls Night Out.
5. [Nails] Models Own Nail Polish in Jade Stone
I really like to shade of this, a very bright and sunny green. If I didn’t have a lot of new polishes to swatch, I would have worn this a lot more frequently. As it is, the quality of this polish makes me want to get more Models Own. I got this from the Glamourbox Boutique.
In one of my hauls for August, I was able to acquire my first Models Own nail polish. The shade is Jade Stone, and it is a wonderfully bright mint green. I bought this off Glamourbox’s online boutique when they held a two-day sale last August 15-16. The original price is Php365, but I got it at 25% off for only Php274!
Models Own is a UK brand. Some of their polishes are not 3-free, but the company is firmly cruelty-free. Glamourbox carries 16 shades of plain and glitter polishes, and 6 colors of nail art pen.
The bottle is a very even cylinder, including the brush handle. It is perhaps the polish that I own with the biggest handle, which actually made the application a little difficult. It contains 14ml of product. Some information is printed at the back, and the shade name is written at the bottom of the bottle. It came sealed too!
I used two coats of Jade Stone here. It’s very bright and summery, and I love how it looks on the nail. It also dries relatively fast.
I also tried out the Models Own nail art pen here. This is supposed to be a weave pattern (inspiration here). As you can see it smudged a little, as I was too excited and applied top coat too early. Both my husband and my daughter say that it looks like some sort of techy thing from afar.
Pros: lovely, lovely mint green shade; dries fast; reasonably priced; cruelty-free;
Cons: limited availability; awkwardly large brush handle
Let me show you what I got this August. Some of these you’ve already encountered in the blog, but I wanted to collect them all in one post. I’ll begin with the ones closest to my heart: nail polish!
I love Essence, and I decided to try out their nail polish line. It was really pretty cheap at Php99 a bottle (even if the bottles are smaller than the other brands’). It was very difficult to keep down my purchases because all the shades were seriously beautiful! I had to content myself with two glitter toppers, the ones I thought looked the best in bottle. The last one, Iced Strawberry Cream, is going to be part of my next giveaway. [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]
OMG. I can’t believe it myself. I made a super major splurge with this, and it’s a little bit of an impulse buy too. But when Digital Traincase announced in their instagram account that they have extra bottles, I couldn’t stop myself and ordered this much vaunted shade from RBL’s Blogger 2.0 collection. It’s pretty limited edition which is why I took the plunge. This costs a whopping Php1250, and is my most expensive polish purchase to date. This is my birthday gift to myself. (excuses, excuses!) [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]
3. Models Own Nail Polish in Jade Stone and Models Own Nail Art Pen in Black
These (and #4 below) are again an impulse buy, sadly. Glamourbox held a 2-day only sale for a whopping 25% off on all products last Aug 15-16. I had been wanting to try out the nail polish brands that they carry, so this was the perfect time to do so. I could only afford three, so I chose a green polish (of course!) and a nail art pen from Models Own (unboxed here). I can’t wait to try these out! The nail polish normally costs Php365 and the nail art pen costs Php440 at the Glamourbox Boutique, but I got mine for only Php274 and Php330 respectively! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]
4. Misa Wanderlust in Frozen in Time
The third product I ordered from the Glamourbox sale is Frozen In Time from the Misa Wanderlust collection (unboxed here). I checked swatches online and this was the one I liked best. I also actually liked the Taking Chances shade but couldn’t afford it anymore, so I had to content myself with this. Each Misa Wanderlust bottle normally costs Php345 at the Glamourbox Boutique, but I got mine for only Php249. [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]
5. Girlstuff Nail Polish in Joanne and Blues
I found myself again at the Girlstuff Kiosk Megamall and I couldn’t resist getting a couple of colors. This golden orange Joanne (Php140) is really bright and sparkly, while the Blues shade (Php100) is a great deep blue. I am planning to give one of these away as well, so watch out for it! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]
The next four items are bought from Landmark, Trinoma.
6. OMG Crystal Sand in Peridot, Opal, and Quartz
I had a pahabol haul from Landmark, and I couldn’t resist getting some of the OMG polishes. They are just so cheap at Php20 per bottle! My eyes were drawn to a row of beautiful looking Crystal Sand polishes, and these three were my top picks. They look so pretty in the bottle, and I’m hoping that it’ll be just as pretty on the nail. I particularly like Quartz. These are Php20 each.
7. OMG Matte Potion
8. BK Nail Art Dotting Tool
I bought another dotting tool from BK Nail Art. My last one had similar sized heads, and I was looking for a tip with a smaller head. Luckily Landmark had a stock of a different dual-ended dotting tool so I grabbed this one. This costs Php60.
9. Kand Stamping Nail Art Set
I had been considering getting this stamping set for my first attempt at stamping nail art. This seemed like the best plate so I grabbed this one. Watch out for my first attempt soon on the blog! This costs Php80.
After this are the non-nail polish purchases I made this month. The first three are from SM-Watsons (department store) at Megamall.
I have read many good reviews from local bloggers of this amazing product. I had so far only been using my BYS eyebrow pencil or some of my dark eyeshadows on my eyebrows. Sometimes I think these make my brows look too strong, so I decided to try this In2It eyebrow kit. It comes in three colors that you can mix and match, and it also comes with its own angled brush and mirror. The most amazing part of this product is that it only costs Php299! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]
I saw this in The Beauty Junkee and I was sold! I had been having problems with my chin area (there seemed to be weird spots there) and I thought that this is perfect to target the problem. The fact that it’s only Php99 sealed the deal. I can use it on my forehead too! Sulit!
I’ve finally ran out of the cotton rounds I bought from last March, so I got myself this humongous 3-pack of cotton squares. I find that I’m using up a lot of these because not only do I use it for the face but I also use them for my nails!
I got this unexpected gift from my mother-in-law. It’s probably a GWP (gift with purchase) since this is sample sized and quite small. The performance is awesome though! It gave me the longest lashes yet of all the mascaras I’ve tried.
14. Colour Collection Vitamin E Lipstick in Red Wine
This and #11 below are my latest Sampleroom haul. As with the Kissmark matte shade, this costed me 85 points. This Red Wine shade is satin (as opposed to matte or sheer) and is a delicious deep red. I am starting to learn how to wear darker reds, so I decided to get this too when the restocks came in.
15. Zenutrients Baby Love Calendula and Milk Soap
Along with the CC lipstick above, I also got this newly released sample. I enjoyed my last sample from Zenutrients (All is Well Oil) and I wanted to try another product from them. I loved the calendula factor from my Nivea Baby Smoothy moisturizer and I love milk soaps, so this should be a pretty awesome combination. I’m loving the scent so far! This costed me 30 points in Sampleroom.
16. Clinique All in One Colour Palette
Another OMG! This certainly is one awesome awesome month for me! This is my mother-in-law’s birthday gift, and my jaw just dropped. My first ever Clinique item and it’s a complete palette! It looks so chic and pristine! This palette has a small mascara tube, five lipstick shades, a neutral eyeshadow quad, a blush, and a face powder. It even comes with a lip brush, a dual-ended eyeshadow brush, a tiny blush brush, and a sponge. This is all the makeup I would need for travel! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]
17. Tiny Nail Polishes and Lip Makeup
Just how adorable are these?! The sweet Tellie of Beauty by Tellie gifted me these items which she got from her trip abroad. These are really small nail polish bottles and there is a gloss-and-lipstick sample as well. They are too cute to use, honestly! Thanks again Tellie!
There you have it! If you want me to work on a review on any of these products, just say so in the comments!
