OMG final week! Again as a recap, this challenge requires me to use a different lipstick for five days per week without repetition for the entire challenge. Since I missed one day on Week 2, I’ll see if I can do an extra day this week!
Day 1: Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick in Pink Flame
This is probably one of my oldest lipsticks, and something I occasionally go back to when I feel like going matte. This is a really matte pink, and consequently, it’s pretty hard to apply. It drags soooo much, which can be alleviated by putting on a balm beforehand (but might lose a bit of matte-ness). I’m not sure if this particular shade is still available.
Day 2: Avon Shine Attract Lipstick in Rose Pink
Along with the EB matte lipstick from Day 1, this is also one of my oldest lipsticks. As I knew no Avon lady, I had to use a lot of guts to go into the Avon center along Commonwealth (which I think is really for dealers? I dunno..), run in and grab this, run to the counter to pay, and run out of there! This lipstick uses a balm/lipstick combination where the center is the lipstick part and surrounded by clear balm. It’s actually pretty hard to get the pigment out from the center as it has a tendency to sink into itself, making the balm perpetually longer than the lipstick part.
Day 3: Pixy Semi Matte Lipstick in Red Chili
This of course came from the loot that I got from the Pixy launch, and this is the darkest red of the three lipsticks I received so of course I wanted to try it out right away. As you can see here, it’s actually pretty shiny for a matte lipstick, although that might be due to the lighting. It’s definitely quite a deep vampy red but doesn’t go into the makes-you-look-old category. It’s relatively longwearing, but does not of course survive eating or drinking. I’ll be writing a full review of this and the other two lipsticks soon!
Day 4: Colour Collection Vitamin E Satin Lipstick in Red Wine
This was one of the first Colour Collection items that I tried, from Sampleroom. This one is again a pretty dark color, but unfortunately I think it really does go into that makes-you-look-old category. I’m not sure why this one does, but not Red Chili. Maybe it’s in the subtle shine? Red Wine appears to be more matte, and actually less vampy. [PS: Wow that blue tint is so obvious. Sorry, I didn’t have my usual camera here and had to use an apparently highly inferior substitute.]
Day 5: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Tinted Taupe
This is yet another nude shade, although this one leans now on the brown side. This is probably my brownest lipstick, and I think it doesn’t look too bad. It’s slightly more longwearing than Peachy Scene, and as it has no shimmer, it’s also more office appropriate.
Day 6: Barenaturals Vitaminstix in I Love You This Smooch
This one is not quite lipstick; it says it’s a lip butter. This came from one of my earliest Glamourboxes, and have not actually been getting the love it deserves. It’s actually a nice solid neutral lip color, and quite hydrating. I just got distracted by newer, shinier things, and this one got shelved as a result. I should put it back on rotation as this is really a solid item.
There we have it! I’m in a whirlwind of emotions as I type this. I’m quite happy to have completed a makeup challenge. At the same time I’m sad that it’s done, as it was a lot of fun! I’ve discovered through your feedback that I really should be exploring nudes as well since it does not look as bad on me as I think it does. I’m also quite surprised that it turns out that I have more than 20 different lipsticks! I’m looking forward to my next makeup challenge. Here are the recap of the first three weeks.
I challenge all of you to try this 20 Days of Lipstick makeup challenge! No need for an actual blog; you can just use Instagram or Twitter to share your lipstick of the day. Tag me at @becomingsleek on either platform, I’m interested to see what you have!
Welcome to Week 2 of my 20 Days of Lipstick beauty dare! Just a short recap, this challenge requires me to use a different lipstick for five days per week without repetition for the entire challenge. This week I continue to explore the options I have in my stash.
Day 1: Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Creamy Nude
I feel like I’m cheating because there are five lipsticks in this Clinique makeup kit, but rest assured that I actually barely use any of these (primarily because I have to use a brush to use any of these). This day I decided I want to try a nude lip, and I always prefer Creamy Nude (leftmost) over Blushing Nude (middle) because, well, it’s creamy! I like this also because it doesn’t make my lips look washed out or blend into the rest of my face.
Day 2: Ofra Lipstick #205
This is the second lipstick I purchased from Shayne, and this is the other shade sent out in the September 2013 Glamourbox (Beauty SOS). I got the red one (Ofra #202) and I wanted to try out this one so badly. Thankfully Shayne sold hers at a very generous price, and I snapped it up right away! This of course is a pretty bright shade of pink, and looks initially matte upon application. It kind of glistens up after a while, but like #202 it’s a little bit drying.
Day 3: Ever Bilena Shine Lipstick in Flaring Cranberry
One of my lower end lipsticks. I like this one particularly because of its scent. It’s not your usual old-lady smell, but rather like a sweet candy scent. This comes out as kind of a shiny or metallic pinkish red (but it appears much darker here!) and because of its moisturizing center, it is not drying at all. It doesn’t stay on long though, and a reapplication is necessary especially after eating.
Day 4: Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Head Turner
I’ve swatched this before here. This is one of my brightest and glossiest pinks. I like how girly it still looks even if it’s bright and in-your-face. It has average longetivity, but nondrying.
Yes, I only was able to do four this week. I forgot to take pictures of the first day actually, and I can’t even remember what I used! I also didn’t like the fact that the pictures occur in different places. Hopefully I’ll have it better for the next week.
Have you watched Maleficent and fell in love with Angelina Jolie? No? I respectfully suggest you go now and do so. You will not regret it.
But this post isn’t really about the movie (which is great ofc!), but about the Maleficent makeup. Isn’t it just divine? I still can’t get over that razor-sharp contouring, and that stunningly red lip. In fact, I’m so taken by that red lip that I decided to go and see if I have anything similar in my stash. Here’s what I found, my reds collection.
From left to right: Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Ripe Raspberry, Avon Vitaluscious Lipstick in Reviving Red, Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Bellissima, Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout (top of tub), Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Queen Bee (bottom of tub), Ever Bilena Lipstick in Flaring Cranberry, and Ofra Lipstick #202.
I wore each of them to check how Maleficent-ish they are.
I also just wanted to swatch some lipsticks. Ahem. For reference, above is my lipstick-less state. Let’s start with Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Bellissima.
As you can see, Bellissima leans somewhat pinkish, and comes out pretty glossy. The red is also quite a lot lighter compared to Maleficent’s. I’ll rate this as 75% Maleficent (according to Pat’s Totally Arbitrary Scale of Lipstick Comparison).
Let’s move on to Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Queen Bee.
Ignoring some twinges of pain when looking at that tub, I’m glad to see that Queen Bee comes out as a deeper red compared to Bellissima. It’s also still a bit glossy, so I’d put this at a slightly higher 82% Maleficent.
Let’s move on to Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout (in another of those tubs).
Oooh well look at that! This one came out pretty matte (well it should!) which brings it closer to Maleficent in terms of texture. It’s still quite bright though, while we are actually looking for something rather brickish. I’ll say this is 88% Maleficent.
Next we have Avon Vitaluscious Lipstick in Reviving Red.
This one seems closer now in terms of shade, rather than texture. It seems to lean more brick compared to the first few ones, but it’s quite glossy. I’ll place it the same with Revlon, 88% Maleficent.
Now we come to Ofra Lipstick #202.
I really like how strikingly bold this is. It does feel like Maleficent, but unfortunately it doesn’t look quite like Maleficent. It is quite matte, but it’s too bright to be called brick red. I’ll go with 85% Maleficent, because it feels closer to the target compared to Queen Bee, but less so than Standout or Reviving Red.
Next we have Ever Bilena Lipstick in Flaring Cranberry.
I know this would turn out quite on the pink side, but I wanted to see how it looked compared to the others. It’s quite bold, yes, but it’s totally not the right color. I’ll rate it 50% Maleficent.
Last but not the least, Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Ripe Raspberry.
It’s definitely not a lipstick, but I thought it is red enough to be included here. Unfortunately, while it is quite pigmented as a lip balm, it is not of course as pigmented as the lipsticks. Compared to them it really is quite sheer, although the red is pretty evident. Since this is red and not pink, I can put this at 60% Maleficent.
In conclusion, I didn’t really come that close to Maleficent-level of lipstick. The closest I got is Revlon Matte Balm in Standout and Avon Vitaluscious Lipstick in Reviving Red, both at 88%. It made me realize that I barely have any dark or brick reds, and I have too many bright reds of the same “level”.
Last weekend I met with Tellie and Kira for a wonderful lunch at Vikings Megamall. It didn’t really start on the best of feet, having had a miscommunication before we even met, but once it started I had a total blast!
Here is what I wore on my face for that day. I wanted to give the Silk Naturals Mineral Eye Colors another shot, now that I have a new eyeshadow base (Artdeco). Here I only used two, Charmed and Thistle.
It turns out that Charmed really does go pretty sheer once blended. It still shows a little bit green here, but it’s a lot less sparkly than what the swatch shows.
Here’s a sample of shenanigans I fall into when taking selfies.

My husband and I rarely celebrate Valentines Day on the actual day itself, mostly because eating out, parking, and traffic are all such a hassle. We just celebrate on some other day, and this year we took our daughter along for a Valentines family day.
On the actual Valentines Day itself, I had to go to work. I didn’t want to let the day pass without somehow looking a bit dolled up! I amped up my “office” look a bit by going for a somewhat smokey eye look. My go-to eye palette was again the Saizen Eye Shadow in Brown.
I used #3 as the overall lid color, and #4 on the crease and outer corner. Underneath all of that I used the Crystal Cream Eyecolor to put a bit of sparkle.
Here’s a better view of the eye look without the glasses.

Eyeshadow experts, I need your feedback! What can I do to improve my eyeshadow application?
As soon as I’ve heard from Monika of Mom Gone Vain, I knew I wanted to try these out for myself. These are newly released lipsticks from Ever Bilena, the ubiquitous Filipino drugstore cosmetics brand. They don’t seem to have a proper name right now, so I’m going to follow Monika’s lead and call them Shade Lipsticks (you’ll see why later). There are a lot of shades of this, and here you see I’ve swatched about ten of them. I ended up choosing two: Red Vixen and Flaring Cranberry.
Both of these have a moisturizing center, very reminiscent of the Avon Shine Attract Lipsticks but reversed. Red Vixen has a white center while Flaring Cranberry has a dark one. I could still not tell the difference between those centers beyond the colors. Red Vixen also has the “Shade Lipstick” marking on its tube, while Flaring Cranberry only has a plain white tube. Red Vixen has 3.9 grams of product, while Flaring Cranberry has 3.7 grams. Here is the amazing part: both are Php95 each!
Red Vixen is a semi-matte bright red shade. Flaring Cranberry is a very dark pink, almost red, with some shimmer. It leans more on the shiny side compared to Red Vixen. Here is the swatch on my arm.
Here is Red Vixen on my lips. It’s a very red shade, and looks really matte up close. It has a tendency to settle into the lines. It also smells much like every other EB lipstick – that synthetic lipstick scent.
Here is Flaring Cranberry on my lips. It appears almost red, but it’s actually a really deep pink. The shimmers are quite apparent, especially in person. Surprisingly, it doesn’t have that traditional lipstick scent. It smells very fruity, and reminds me strongly of those “Kiss” scent beads when we were kids (90s kids in the house! fistbump!).
What do you think? Not a bad set of lipsticks! Never mind the really cheap packaging, this is really a worthwhile buy for Php95. I’m thinking of collecting the rest of the collection!
I don’t have information on Ever Bilena’s animal testing policies. You can learn more about their products here.
Welcome to the second volume of Saturday Shorts. I’ve decided I’ll do an every-other-week post for this series so that I’ll have the option to do something else on the other Saturdays. Anyway! This week, we will focus on eye products.
1. Creation Eyeshadow Palette
Remember one of my earliest hauls? I got this super cheap palette for only Php25 (it was on sale) from Saizen. It has six shades: three greens, one blue, one white, and one shimmery beige. The eyeshadows are very powdery and prone to fall out, and is pretty stubborn to apply. It’s pretty cheap though, but I think this is only good for playing with. It might be better applied with a wet brush, but I haven’t tried it yet.
2. Olay Regenerist Eye Cream
This eye cream is one of a duo of Olay products I got from the SM Watsons Beauty Box. It has 10 ml of product. I use it mostly at night, and apply it both on my undereyes and on my lids. I have so far not been wowed by any immediate results, but at least my undereyes have been kept well moisturized. There are no visible lightening of either my undereyes or my lids, after three weeks of continuous use. To be fair, it didn’t really promise that. Instead it promises smoother lids and softer lines. While I can say that my lids may have become smoother, my undereye lines haven’t softened yet. I think I have only used a third to a half of the tube (hard to tell since the tube is quite opaque), so I will update this post if there are any changes to my feedback once I finish this tube.
3. Ever Bilena Evera Eye Pencil with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E
I bought this eye pencil way back in March, at one of the Watsons branches in Makati. It’s a very stiff pencil that might be better used on the brows than as eyeliner, but I’m using it as eyeliner more often. It is a nice shade of brown that usually goes well with my everyday makeup, but I don’t use it too often as it really is too hard and pulls on my lids too much. It’s also not waterproof, and will easily wash out in the rain or if you sweat a lot. I would probably consider getting another shade (a darker brown probably) to use on my brows, as this is pretty cheap at Php35.
For this FOTD, I am featuring the LA Colors eyeshadow palette I received from Peachy Pink Sisters. I have been using this palette a lot in my everyday office makeup, but usually only the top row for a more neutral look. Today I would like to try using the bottom row for a bolder day look.
Here are the products I used. Nichido Makeup Palette for the blush, LA Colors palette, Avon Shine Attract in Happy Pink, Pantene Miracle Water, Ever Bilena Eye Pencil in brown, Fashion 21 Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown, Maybelline Great Lash in Dark Brown, Venus and Mars Smooch Lip Detox, Myra VitaGlow Tinted Moisturizer
Here’s the completed look. It’s still a little conservative (in my opinion), but I like the flash of color in my eyes.
A closer look of my eyes. Pardon the sweat drops on my forehead (ang init!).
What do you think?
Let’s break our personal barriers! I’m going to break mine and post a FOTD today. I’m always nervous about posting my face around the internet, but we don’t learn anything if we don’t master our fears. So! Here’s my first ever Face of the Day.
Here are the products I used:
Face products (L-R): Elf Concealer Stick, Celeteque Dermoscience Hydration Facial Moisturizer, Etude House Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream, Nichido Loose Powder, Ever Bilena Powder Blush in Baby Pink
Eye and lip products (Clockwise from left): Creation Eyeshadow from Saizen, Eye of Horus Natural Smokey Eye Pencil, Etude House Oh m’Eye Lash Mascara, Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick in Pink Flame, Venus and Mars Smooch Lip Detox
I’m not sure if you could see it, but check out the Nouveau clip I wore.
Let’s have an awkward nerdy smile to end this first FOTD post.
I’ve been itching to go shopping and finally I was able to find the time to do so. I ended up with this gigantic haul from Watsons near my office. Warning: Long Haul Post ahead.
Let’s start with this pair of Watsons Round Puffs, each a set of 100 cotton rounds. I got them both for Php89 (it was on a Buy 1 Take 1 sale). I will always need cotton rounds for my daily skincare, so I thought this was a fair buy.
Next is Nouveau Classic Collection of 6 claw clips. I want to wear my hair down (instead of up in a ponytail as per usual) and clips are the best way to keep it tidy. This cost me Php 84.75.
Speaking of hair, I’m on a mission to redeem my lifeless hair. I’ve already started by using the Pantene Miracle Water from my Dec-Jan BDJ Box and the Snoe Oil for All from my Feb Glamourbox. I decided to go for this Hair Treats Hair Spa in Argan Oil. The instructions are basically to massage onto scalp after shampooing and leave on for about 15 minutes with a shower cap, then rinse off. I’m hoping to do this once a week. This 250-g tub cost me Php72.75.
Next is Myra VitaGlow Tinted Facial Moisturizer with SPF15 in Ivory. In the mornings I have usually been using my Celeteque Hydration Moisturizer plus either my Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream SPF30 or my Maybelline Shine Free Face Powder SPF18. Lately though I’m getting very pressed for time and I want a faster routine for those types of mornings. A tinted moisturizer would serve as moisturizer, sunblock, and face base at the same time and would save me loads of time. It comes sealed for your protection, and this 35-ml tube cost Php135.
Since I couldn’t test it out in the store and there was only one available shade there (ivory), I decided to immediately break it out and swatch it.
It may look a little too light for me, but blending it further makes it look more natural and closer to my skin tone.
I also went ahead and bought two products from Ever Bilena: an eye pencil and a lipstick. This Evera Eye Pencil with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E is a very short brown pencil and cost only Php35.
The lipstick I bought is Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick in Pink Flame, which cost Php155 (the most expensive item in this haul). It’s an MLBB shade that was the only one that struck my fancy among all the available shades, including those of other lipstick types.
I went ahead and swatched both the eyeliner and the lipstick. The lipstick is a nice safe pink and the eyeliner is a dark brown, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
Finally, what is a haul without nail products? I found that Color Trends has new shades (yay!) and I chose this yellow one called Sherbet Mango Yellow. It’s of course the usual price of Php19.75. Next is Bobbie Cocktail Hour Gradation Nail Polish in Pink Cadillac, for Php80. Lastly, a bottle of Chic Nail Color in Love Orchid, a dainty frosted pink, for Php29.25.
The gradation nail polish is so interesting! I haven’t done gradation on my nails yet, and I can’t wait to find the time to try this out. I couldn’t resist opening it, to show you how sparkly this set is. Check out the glitters on that third bottle.
There you have it! All these items cost me just a little over Php700. Have you tried any of these? Let me know!
