Today I was feeling the pink, so I decided to unearth my pink eyeshadows and lipstick to feature this color.

feelingpink1

Here I used the bottom middle of my L.A. Colors eyeshadow palette as the lid wash, and the #2 shade from my Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Purple Pop for the outer corner and crease.

feelingpink4

For contrast I used the #4 from Purple Pop as eyeliner. I used Benefit They’re Real Mascara for my lashes.

feelingpink2

To top it all off I used Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Lollipop for my lips.

Last month I swatched the three mineral eyeshadows  I received from Kira, and Tellie challenged me to come up with an eye makeup look that featured all three. After a whole month of diddling about, I finally found the opportunity to play around with the eyeshadows. Before I present the results, here again are the three shades and the swatches.

holidayhaul06 silknaturalsswatch1

What I did was to use Charmed as lidwash on the inner 2/3 of the eye, and put Thistle on the outer 1/3 and blended it into the crease. Sonic was used as a highlight in the tearduct and browbone. I used the foiling technique (aka damp brush). The brushes I used were all from Artist Studio. Here’s how it turned out.

greenpurple1

And here’s a close up.

greenpurple2

It’s a little weird how it ended up. The green eyeshadow is now almost completely invisible and turns up only as hints on the crease (the green you see near the upper lashline is a green eyeliner). It did spread out its glitter all over the lid though. The purple also isn’t as deep as the swatch suggested. I used my trusty Essence eyeshadow base underneath all this. Here’s another shot, although rather blurred.

My husband and I rarely celebrate Valentines Day on the actual day itself, mostly because eating out, parking, and traffic are all such a hassle. We just celebrate on some other day, and this year we took our daughter along for a Valentines family day.

On the actual Valentines Day itself, I had to go to work. I didn’t want to let the day pass without somehow looking a bit dolled up! I amped up my “office” look a bit by going for a somewhat smokey eye look. My go-to eye palette was again the Saizen Eye Shadow in Brown.

saizencosmetics09

I used #3 as the overall lid color, and #4 on the crease and outer corner. Underneath all of that I used the Crystal Cream Eyecolor to put a bit of sparkle.

Eyeshadow experts, I need your feedback! What can I do to improve my eyeshadow application?

I’m sure you are aware of the resting bitch face. Urban dictionary defines it as “a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to.” Fortunately, I don’t have that, but I do have what I would call resting sad face. Apparently I look sad or depressed when I am expressionless. I have more than one person per week come up to me asking if I’m okay, when I was actually feeling pretty upbeat! Maybe I need to smile more…

Anyway! I would like to share with you one of the ways I reuse my empty Glamourboxes. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before, but Glamourboxes are pretty large and sturdy and really quite reusable.

glamboxfeb2

Since the boxes are nicely sturdy, I use them as trays/containers for my nail polishes. Here you see one and a half Glamourboxes holding my favorite polishes and nail art equipment. I also use another box as a tray where I put my selected supplies so I don’t need to bring an entire box of polishes every time.

recycling1

Here’s a closer look at the individual trays. This box is where I put my (growing) collection of Dazzle Dry nail polishes. On the corner is my lone Rescue Beauty Lounge lacquer.

recycling3

This one holds my “other” brands. I have here a surprising amount of OMG polishes and a bit of Girlstuff, Models Own, San San, Essence, and Etude House. There’s also lone representatives from Misa, BYS, and Bobbie.

recycling2

Finally this one holds my nail art supplies. Most of it is actually from the Nailinator as I won one of her contests.

recycling4

Writing this post makes me realize that I might have a bit too much nail polish (you don’t say?!). At the same time, I also feel like my boxes can hold a bit more bottles and there’s that really horrible nagging thought that I have maybe five more unused Glamourboxes hanging around. I…I’m addicted, aren’t I?

How do you recycle your subscription box boxes?

Makeup is such a versatile tool and can really change a girl’s look if done correctly. I was able to use this to good effect when I needed a severe office look to help me face one of my toughest challenges as a manager. I wanted a “mega taray” look because I wanted to project a certain image.

taray1

Red lipstick is the centerpiece, a shade I don’t normally wear to the office and something I would usually associate with the word “taray”. I supported it with a light blush, dark brows, and some pinkish-red eyeshadows.

I would love to hear your thoughts about this look!

In my October haul I bought this Girlstuff Nail Polish in Going Green at the SM North Department Store for Php99. It’s a pretty bright leafy green.

hauloct06

The formula seems good, and applied evenly. I used two coats for this swatch, no top coat.

goinggreen1

I also bought this gold striping tape, this time from the SM Megamall kiosk for Php50.

hauloct04 hauloct03

I decided to give it a shot and did a gold-and-green mani to show it off.

goinggreen2

I used two stripes on each finger (except ring). I applied it on after the nail polish dried, and cut it off using some sharp scissors. As expected, I could only do this for my left hand. I used Essence Gold Fever for the accent nail on my left hand, and all nails on the right.

goinggreen3

I would say that Girlstuff Going Green is a really great nail polish. Except that when I took it off two days later, this happened:

goinggreen4

I think that this particular polish has some strange staining ingredient in it, and made all ten of my fingernails look sick and ugly. I did use a base coat to protect my nails (Dazzle Dry Base Coat) but it didn’t help much in this case. If you guys know how to remove the stains, please let me know!

Let me show you what I got this August. Some of these you’ve already encountered in the blog, but I wanted to collect them all in one post. I’ll begin with the ones closest to my heart: nail polish!

1. Essence Nail Polish in Iced Strawberry Cream, Time for Romance, and Gold Fever augusthaul07 augusthaul08 augusthaul09 augusthaul10 augusthaul11 augusthaul12 augusthaul13

I love Essence, and I decided to try out their nail polish line. It was really pretty cheap at Php99 a bottle (even if the bottles are smaller than the other brands’). It was very difficult to keep down my purchases because all the shades were seriously beautiful! I had to content myself with two glitter toppers, the ones I thought looked the best in bottle. The last one, Iced Strawberry Cream, is going to be part of my next giveaway. [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]

2. Rescue Beauty Lounge Liberty augusthaul04 augusthaul01 augusthaul02 augusthaul03 augusthaul06 augusthaul05

OMG. I can’t believe it myself. I made a super major splurge with this, and it’s a little bit of an impulse buy too. But when Digital Traincase announced in their instagram account that they have extra bottles, I couldn’t stop myself and ordered this much vaunted shade from RBL’s Blogger 2.0 collection. It’s pretty limited edition which is why I took the plunge. This costs a whopping Php1250, and is my most expensive polish purchase to date. This is my birthday gift to myself. (excuses, excuses!) [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]

3. Models Own Nail Polish in Jade Stone and Models Own Nail Art Pen in Black

gbloot01

gbloot05gbloot08 gbloot11 gbloot13 gbloot15 gbloot16

These (and #4 below) are again an impulse buy, sadly. Glamourbox held a 2-day only sale for a whopping 25% off on all products last Aug 15-16. I had been wanting to try out the nail polish brands that they carry, so this was the perfect time to do so. I could only afford three, so I chose a green polish (of course!) and a nail art pen from Models Own (unboxed here). I can’t wait to try these out! The nail polish normally costs Php365 and the nail art pen costs Php440 at the Glamourbox Boutique, but I got mine for only Php274 and Php330 respectively! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]

4. Misa Wanderlust in Frozen in Time

gbloot01gbloot02 gbloot03

The third product I ordered from the Glamourbox sale is Frozen In Time from the Misa Wanderlust collection (unboxed here). I checked swatches online and this was the one I liked best. I also actually liked the Taking Chances shade but couldn’t afford it anymore, so I had to content myself with this. Each Misa Wanderlust bottle normally costs Php345 at the Glamourbox Boutique, but I got mine for only Php249. [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]

5. Girlstuff Nail Polish in Joanne and Blues

augusthaul23

augusthaul24 augusthaul25 augusthaul26 augusthaul27

I found myself again at the Girlstuff Kiosk Megamall and I couldn’t resist getting a couple of colors. This golden orange Joanne (Php140) is really bright and sparkly, while the Blues shade (Php100) is a great deep blue. I am planning to give one of these away as well, so watch out for it! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]

The next four items are bought from Landmark, Trinoma.

6. OMG Crystal Sand in Peridot, Opal, and Quartz

augusthaul40

augusthaul41

I had a pahabol haul from Landmark, and I couldn’t resist getting some of the OMG polishes. They are just so cheap at Php20 per bottle! My eyes were drawn to a row of beautiful looking Crystal Sand polishes, and these three were my top picks. They look so pretty in the bottle, and I’m hoping that it’ll be just as pretty on the nail. I particularly like Quartz. These are Php20 each.

7. OMG Matte Potion

augusthaul42

Yes I already have a bottle of this, but I purchased a few more to add to my upcoming giveaway. Check out this Matte Potion in action here, here, and here.

8. BK Nail Art Dotting Tool

augusthaul43

I bought another dotting tool from BK Nail Art. My last one had similar sized heads, and I was looking for a tip with a smaller head. Luckily Landmark had a stock of a different dual-ended dotting tool so I grabbed this one. This costs Php60.

9. Kand Stamping Nail Art Set

augusthaul38

augusthaul39

I had been considering getting this stamping set for my first attempt at stamping nail art. This seemed like the best plate so I grabbed this one. Watch out for my first attempt soon on the blog! This costs Php80.

After this are the non-nail polish purchases I made this month.  The first three are from SM-Watsons (department store) at Megamall.

10. In2It Waterproof Eyebrow Colour in ER 01 Eyebrowns augusthaul14 augusthaul15 augusthaul17 augusthaul18

I have read many good reviews from local bloggers of this amazing product. I had so far only been using my BYS eyebrow pencil or some of my dark eyeshadows on my eyebrows. Sometimes I think these make my brows look too strong, so I decided to try this In2It eyebrow kit. It comes in three colors that you can mix and match, and it also comes with its own angled brush and mirror. The most amazing part of this product is that it only costs Php299! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]

11. Glamworks Chin and Forehead Strips augusthaul22

I saw this in The Beauty Junkee and I was sold! I had been having problems with my chin area (there seemed to be weird spots there) and I thought that this is perfect to target the problem. The fact that it’s only Php99 sealed the deal. I can use it on my forehead too! Sulit!

12. Watsons 3-Pack Cotton Squares augusthaul21

I’ve finally ran out of the cotton rounds I bought from last March, so I got myself this humongous 3-pack of cotton squares. I find that I’m using up a lot of these because not only do I use it for the face but I also use them for my nails!

13. Diorshow Extase Mascara in Black augusthaul19 augusthaul20

I got this unexpected gift from my mother-in-law. It’s probably a GWP (gift with purchase) since this is sample sized and quite small. The performance is awesome though! It gave me the longest lashes yet of all the mascaras I’ve tried.

14. Colour Collection Vitamin E Lipstick in Red Wine

augusthaul35

augusthaul33 augusthaul34

This and #11 below are my latest Sampleroom haul. As with the Kissmark matte shade, this costed me 85 points. This Red Wine shade is satin (as opposed to matte or sheer) and is a delicious deep red. I am starting to learn how to wear darker reds, so I decided to get this too when the restocks came in.

15. Zenutrients Baby Love Calendula and Milk Soap

augusthaul32

Along with the CC lipstick above, I also got this newly released sample. I enjoyed my last sample from Zenutrients (All is Well Oil) and I wanted to try another product from them. I loved the calendula factor from my Nivea Baby Smoothy moisturizer and I love milk soaps, so this should be a pretty awesome combination. I’m loving the scent so far! This costed me 30 points in Sampleroom.

16. Clinique All in One Colour Palette

augusthaul31

augusthaul28 augusthaul29 augusthaul30

Another OMG! This certainly is one awesome awesome month for me! This is my mother-in-law’s birthday gift, and my jaw just dropped. My first ever Clinique item and it’s a complete palette! It looks so chic and pristine! This palette has a small mascara tube, five lipstick shades, a neutral eyeshadow quad, a blush, and a face powder. It even comes with a lip brush, a dual-ended eyeshadow brush, a tiny blush brush, and a sponge. This is all the makeup I would need for travel! [Click the thumbnails for the bigger versions!]

17. Tiny Nail Polishes and Lip Makeup

augusthaul36

augusthaul37

Just how adorable are these?! The sweet Tellie of Beauty by Tellie gifted me these items which she got from her trip abroad. These are really small nail polish bottles and there is a gloss-and-lipstick sample as well. They are too cute to use, honestly! Thanks again Tellie!

There you have it! If you want me to work on a review on any of these products, just say so in the comments!

Argh! It’s so hard to think of titles if the shade name sounds so good. This is the second Essence Nail Polish (glitter topper) that I tried. Time for Romance is a purple jelly base with a large amount of purple glitter and large hexagonal bits. I bought this at SM Makat for only Php99.

augusthaul08

It looks soooo pretty in the bottle. Will it look just as pretty on the nail? Check it out below!

augusthaul09

I used two coats of Dazzle Dry Strawberry Macaron as base for all fingers except the ring finger. I then applied one layer of Time for Romance on the tips of the thumb, pointer, and middle fingers in a french tip manner. The ring finger has two coats of the glitter topper alone. The pinky has one layer spread all over Strawberry Macaron.

timeforromance1 timeforromance2

Time for Romance has an almost opaque purple base that it can actually be used alone (check out the ring finger). It looks almost the same as when topped over Strawberry Macaron. The jelly-looking base really reminds me of strawberry or grape jam that I used to spread on bread when I was a kid.

timeforromance3

Check out the sunlight shots! Yummy glitter!

timeforromance4 timeforromance5

What do you think of it? Yummy shade isn’t it? What would you wear it with?

Not a very original title, but that’s basically what I did here. I wanted to try out Essence nail polishes, and I was enamored by this shade, Gold Fever. It has a clear base with a lot of gold glitters, along with a bit of red glitter. I bought this at SM Makati, for Php99 only.

augusthaul10 augusthaul11

Since this is a glitter topper, I chose my favorite Dazzle Dry Me d’Forest Queen as base color. The deep green will showcase the golden glitters very well, and I was right! Check it out!

greenandgold1

I made a mini nail art of it as well, by applying the Essence glitter topper in various ways. Too late when I realized that the brush can be used on its side!  It looks much better on my right hand.

greenandgold2 greenandgold3 greenandgold4

I made sure to leave the ring finger with just the Essence Gold Fever to show you how it would look on its own. It’s a little sheer so I used three coats. The ones on the green are only two coats.

greenandgold5 greenandgold6

And check it out under sunlight! The gold just glitters out at you!

greenandgold7 greenandgold8

Have you tried any Essence glitter toppers? How did it work for you?

Essence nail polishes are 5-free and cruelty-free.

With great excitement I’ve been waiting for August 1, for that is when the SM Beauty Box will be available. I’ve been reading about it from the big beauty bloggers, and I’m pretty much stoked about this box. SM/Watsons Beauty Box is available in only four SM branches (I bought mine at SM Makati), and it costs Php799. It’s a humongous box (read: super large!) that has a LOT of products inside.

smbb01

When I went to SM Makati there were about five stacks of three or four of these boxes on display. Each box is sealed with a sticker, and the sales ladies could not agree whether it is okay to open it for visual inspection. Since I was interested in keeping the box pristine, I refused to have them open the box, hoping that all the contents promised would be inside.

smbb02

The box is about a foot and a half square (yes it’s really that big!) and about 3-4 inches high. It opens on the side with the SM and Watsons logos, and it has a pair of (weak) magnets to hold it closed. The box itself is made with stiff cardboard. This box is one of the reasons I bought this pack, because I can find many uses for this. Upon opening you see a large assortment of products that you can usually see in any Watsons branch.

smbb03

Since there are just so much products in here, I’m going to take a page out of Tellie‘s book and just talk in detail about the things I’m excited about. These would be the products that made me decide to get the box in the first place. The prices that I’m listing here are based on what I saw at the store, and the others based on information I found on the internet.

First is Nanny Rose Gugo & Lawat Anti-hairfall Shampoo (Php99). I currently have a hairfall problem which the L’Oreal anti-hairfall line wasn’t able to resolve completely. I was prepared to buy another brand, but luckily the SM Beauty Box had this. I’ve heard so much good stuff about Nanny Rose, so I’m quite hopeful that this will help my hair problem.

smbb04 smbb05 smbb06

Next is this Lucido-L Hair Make SUpplement Repairing Oil for Straight (Php295). I saw this on Tricia‘s blog and was interested in trying it out. Initially I thought it was intended only for curly hair, but this variant proved otherwise. Admittedly my hair isn’t really all that straight (it’s more of the wavy type) but I’d like to see what this does for me.

smbb07 smbb08

Next item is Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Eye Cream and Lash Serum Duo. I’m looking for my HG eye cream (sadly Celeteque’s didn’t really do much for me) and it’s great that SM Beauty Box had one. These Olay products are much smaller than their box implies (although it does say the contents at the bottom of the box). I’m probably not using the lash serum though. I had a hard time finding out how much this costs so I’m estimating it at Php300. EDIT: RachelS says this retails for Php1500!

smbb09 smbb10 smbb11

Of course the single nail polish in the box will be in this list! Flormar Magnetic Twist Nail Enamel is my second Flormar nail polish (the first being the Supershine), and my first magnetic polish! I’m quite excited to try this out. I wanted to see what the magnet looked like, but the box is actually sealed. How sanitary! Again I couldn’t find pricing information, so my estimate is at Php150.

smbb12 smbb13 smbb14

Lastly, this quad of Quick FX products is very intriguing. Surprisingly too, since these are in sachets and I hate sachets, but these have that pretty interesting spout system going on. Specifically I’m excited about the Eyelift Cream (see Olay entry above) and the Tinted Moisturizer. Prices vary from Php49 to Php99.

smbb15

Let me show you the rest of the products in the box. First we have a duo of Beyond Care products (body lotion and body wash) and an interesting tin of Snake Brand Prickly Heat Cooling Powder (Php69). These three are actually also interesting, but didn’t make the cut in the list above because I wouldn’t have been sad if these weren’t included. However I am a fan of body lotions and powders, so I am happy that I got these. I have no information on the prices of the lotion and body wash. My estimate is at Php60 each.

smbb16

Next is a trio of hair products. There is a giant tub of Opal Hot Oil Cream Conditioner (Php100+), a tube of Vitress Solenn (?!) Hair Cuticle Coat (Php47), and a huge box of Palty Hair Color in Namachoco Waffle (Php499). I still have the tub of Hair Treats hair spa from a haul way back so I’m not that excited about the conditioner. I don’t like leave-on stuff in hair much, so I’m probably not using the Vitress tube. And lastly my job and position probably frowns on colored hair, so I’m skipping on the Palty box as well.

smbb17

Next batch is a pack of Purederm Make-up Cleansing Tissues (Php99), a bottle of Skinklens Gentle Skin Cleanser (looks remarkably similar to Cetaphil)(Php260), a tube of Evas Vitamin Hand Cream (Php139), and a tube of Essence Lip Gloss in True Love (about Php139). I’m actually interested in most of these, but again I wouldn’t have been sad if these weren’t included.

smbb18

And finally the bunch of sachet stuff: Botanical Choice Exfoliating Foot Mask (Php189.75), FINE Hyaluron & Collagen (Php110) and Metabo Coffee packs, and Purederm Snail Age Regenerating Multi-step Treatment. I’m actually interested in that last one since I like masks. Oh and I’m not averse to trying the coffee either. Again I couldn’t find any price information for the coffee and the snail treatment. My estimates are Php80 and Php150 respectively.

smbb19

My impressions of the SM Beauty Box: This is a pretty good buy, if I may say so. I really like the box itself, and those five items listed above are things I would actually have bought. The other items are a nice topping to this already wonderful cake. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this box.

Value review: SM Beauty claims that the items are worth over Php4000. My estimates come up to only Php2900, so it might be too conservative. Regardless, even the estimate is more than twice (nay, thrice!) of the cost of the box, Php799. There can be no doubt that this is worth the investment. It has 18 (!!) products from a wide range of categories and brands, which is a great sampler if you are unfamiliar with these brands.

Will you be getting a box for yourself? Did you get one already? Which products are you excited about?
